When healthy, our hips function as “shock absorbers” for our daily life, walking, running and standing on our feet.
Our hips are built to absorb the shocks of daily life, but as we age, they start to wear down or become damaged. Besides aging, there other factors that may cause pain, such as repetitive activities like running or other sports that may have an impact.
At the Regenerative Healing Center, we have successfully treated patients so they can regain more normal hip function using an integrative approach that does not involve risky drugs.
Here are three painful hip problems we’ve had great success treating.
- Bursitis: A swelling or inflammation of the bursa, the fluid-filled sack that reduce friction between moving parts in your body’s joints, such as the hips, as well as the knees, elbows and shoulders. Symptoms include pain on the outer side of the hip that may worsen when moving, standing position or sitting for a long time.
- Labral tear: The hip labrum keeps the thigh bone in place. It can become damaged due to repetitive stress activities, trauma or a structural abnormality in the hip, causing pain in the hip or groin and reduced range of motion.
- Osteoarthritis of the hip: A degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and most often occurs in weight-bearing joints, such as the hips. Characterized by the degeneration of joint cartilage and the underlying bone, it results in pain, stiffness and reduced range of motion.
How they treat it
As a first course of action, go-to remedies for conventional doctors include drugs such as NSAIDs or other anti-inflammatories. Taking drugs to mask the pain carries plenty of risks even with well-known over-the-counter (OTC) drugs such as aspirin and acetaminophen. The risks may include harm to the liver and stomach, bleeding, kidney and in some cases, heart problems.
How we treat it
At the Regenerative Healing Center, we treat hip pain using an integrative approach. Using prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and other therapies, we accelerate and enhance the body’s natural healing process. Many patients that come to our center have already been through the conventional route without relief. With our treatments, they finally start to feel relief enabling them to get back to what they love to do.
